Artist Statement
My work is meticulous and meditative, a practice of creating and then responding mindfully, over and over again until the image is resolved. I find that allowing the most spontaneous and unexpected marks to direct the image strengthens my work.
Teaching Philosophy
I believe that practice rendering landscapes, the human figure, and still life enhances every form of art making. I emphasize to students that developing a vocabulary of engaging markmaking, color theory, and creating non-representational compositions and designs elevate representational artwork.
